Rockefeller Foundation
A core pillar of the Foundation’s work focuses on helping cities and rural communities build their economic, social, and climate resilience. They have a long-term vision for resilience to become a robust field, akin to sustainability, with the ability to influence policy around the world.
As a result of our research, we discovered that resilience practitioners needed a singular place, online, where they could access the best resilience-related content and connect with others in the space. We generated over 50 possible names for the platform, ultimately settling on Zilient for its uniqueness/ownability and its connection to resilience without using the full term. Early logo explorations were inspired by different symbols of resilience, like spring mechanisms and Bucky Fuller’s geodesic dome.
In the end we landed on the logomark that we call the Hub. The hub icon was inspired by the traffic circles used in urban planning, but it also symbolizes the movement and connection of people through the platform. There’s also a subtle “Z’ shape made in the center by the lines extending to either side.
